PVC wallpaper possesses excellent physical properties, including high tensile and impact strength, as well as superior dielectric properties. Common characteristics include some sound absorption, heat insulation, mildew resistance, and antibacterial properties, along with good anti-aging and insect-repellent performance.
More specifically, PVC wallpaper is waterproof and moisture-proof; the adhesive surface effectively isolates moisture, keeping the substrate dry. It is also washable and easy to clean and maintain. However, its breathability is relatively poor, which may affect the wall surface in humid climates. Regarding chemical safety, PVC resin itself is non-toxic, but the vinyl chloride monomer (VCM) used in polymerizing PVC has carcinogenic effects. Generally, resins with a VCM content below 1 PPM are classified as sanitary grade. Furthermore, additives used in processing (such as stabilizers like lead, cadmium, and barium salts) may contain toxic substances, and some products may contain phthalate plasticizers, posing certain potential risks. Under normal conditions, qualified PVC wallpaper is harmless to humans, but it decomposes at high temperatures or during combustion, producing toxic gases such as chlorine.
